State Development Squad (Green)
Where the journey begins.
State Development Green is the foundation of the Newmarket Racers competitive pathway. Designed for our youngest aspiring athletes, this squad focuses on mastering fundamental stroke technique across all four competitive strokes.
Jono Ellis and Sam Siganto lead a program that balances enjoyment with discipline, introducing swimmers to squad etiquette, pace-clock management, and the core principles of athletic movement. The goal is simple: to build a flawless technical base that will support a lifetime of fast swimming.
State Development Squad (Blue)
Learning to race, not just swim.
State Development Blue is the pivotal transition phase for emerging competitive swimmers. This squad is strictly focused on refining advanced stroke mechanics and building the aerobic engine necessary for serious competition.
Guided by Jono Ellis and Sam Siganto, athletes in this group move beyond "learning to swim" and begin training to race. The curriculum prioritises efficiency, starts, turns, and underwater skills, ensuring that every swimmer has the technical toolkit required to chase their first State Qualifying times. This is where the habits of a champion are formed.
State Squad
Targeting Queensland State Championships.
The State Squad is the competitive engine of the Newmarket Racers, designed for athletes who have developed a strong training ethic and are targeting Queensland State Championship qualifying times. Under the guidance of Jono Ellis, this program bridges the gap between age-group swimming and high-performance racing.
Swimmers in this squad undertake a significant increase in training volume, with a specific focus on maintaining technical excellence under fatigue. The program emphasises race-pace skills, physiological conditioning, and the mental resilience required to compete at the State level. It is the final preparation stage before graduating to the Senior High-Performance squads.
Bob's Squad
Chasing National Qualifying times.
Bob's Squad is comprised of dedicated, competitive athletes who are strictly focused on securing National Qualifying times and achieving their full athletic potential. Under the direct mentorship of Head Coach Bob Miller, this program caters to accomplished swimmers targeting podium performances at major State and National Age Group competitions.
The training philosophy prioritises technical mastery and stroke efficiency, laying the critical foundation for a seamless progression into the National Squad. To support this elite pathway, annual training volume is significantly increased, combining rigorous pool work with specialised strength and conditioning protocols. This holistic approach builds the aerobic engine and athletic resilience required to race and win on the national stage.
National Squad
